Turtles are strange creatures that do not really seem to fit in with other animals that you can currently find on our planet. 

We are pretty sure that they are reptiles, but there is debate among scientists about where they exactly fit in with other reptiles. 

The biggest question concerns their most recognizable feature, their protective shells. 

Tracking down the origin of this strange feature has proven to be quite time-consuming and frustrating, but also rewarding and at times, exciting.
