IllustrationWith all this heat that seems to be cooking the country this year, it is nice to have access to swimming pools to cool off. 

If you've been to a pool that allows diving, then you have probably witnessed or been unlucky enough to have performed a belly flop. 

A belly flop, or belly buster or gut buster or whatever you call it in your neck of the woods, is whenever you jump into the water and land flat on your stomach making a loud sound and causing a lot of pain. 

Why does it hurt so bad to belly flop, whenever you can dive from the same distance and not feel a thing?
