This Strange Animal Split In Two

Millions of years ago there was a creature known as Chalicothere that is the extinct relative of horses and rhinos. 

The Chalicothere is very interesting because it has been proven to have evolved into two similar creatures that lived at the same time and the same place. 

This is known as parallel evolution and this fascinating video by PBS Eons will do a much better job of explaining it than I can. 

In short, the Chalicothere evolved into one animal that was more horse-like and another that was more giraffe-like and both of these creatures lived together even though they were evolving in two different directions.
