When you hear about the effects of global warming, it almost seems unreal to imagine that the poles of the planet could warm enough to completely melt. 

We don't have to imagine it though, because it has happened at least once in the past and the results were life altering for Earth's inhabitants. 

The scary thing is that the climate changes that led to the event in the past happened over thousands of years, while today's climate changes are happening five times faster!
