Lead has had thousands of uses, the most surprising to me was the use of lead as a sweetener in Ancient Rome. Lead has also been used as a liner for pots and pans, water pipes and numerous other things in direct contact with the food we eat and water we drink. Luckily we have realized the dangers of using lead, which is highly poisonous, and have restricted its use.
