Did The Earth Used To Look Purple?

If someone were to ask you to think about the first color that comes to mind when thinking of the Earth, you would probably think of blue for the oceans or green for the plant-life. 

What if I told you that the Earth may have been covered in more purple-colored life in the distant past? 

The 'Purple Earth' is a hypothesis that has many people intrigued and curious about what may have been.
