News clipping about typhoid Mary MallonThe first person in the United States that was identified as an asymptomatic carrier of typhoid fever was Mary Mallon, also known as Typhoid Mary.

Mary carried the disease and was able to pass it on to others, but showed no symptoms herself.

Unfortunately the medical health system in the United States at the time had no idea how to treat people with typhoid fever, let alone asymptomatic carriers.
