News clipping about typhoid Mary MallonThe first person in the United States that was identified as an asymptomatic carrier of typhoid fever was Mary Mallon, also known as Typhoid Mary.

Mary carried the disease and was able to pass it on to others, but showed no symptoms herself.

Unfortunately the medical health system in the United States at the time had no idea how to treat people with typhoid fever, let alone asymptomatic carriers.

Due to the fact that Mary had no symptoms, she had no way of knowing that she was getting people sick.

Thanks to some good old fashioned detective work the truth was finally revealed, but not before Mary had made many people sick.

Check out this video to learn more about Mary and the terrible disease that ultimately took her freedom.
