Flying To The Sun Is Harder Than You Think!

Josh Welch

Illustration of Earth and the SunWe all learned in science class that the Sun has a strong force called gravity that pulls objects like planets and comets towards it.

So it should be a simple matter to fly a spaceship to the sun, or to crash a rocket filled with trash or nuclear waste into the sun, right?

Shouldn't you just have to aim at the big ball of fire in the sky, blast off and let gravity do the rest? The answer may surprise you!

If you've got three minutes to spare, then you owe it to yourself to spend them learning something new and interesting.

This short but fascinating video by MinutePhysics will show you why flying to the Sun is not nearly as easy as one would imagine.
